We are driven by the alarming statistics that show nearly one-third of LGBTQ+ students do not graduate high school, and LGBTQ+ young adults experience homelessness at a significantly higher rate than their peers.

Empowering Communities: Meet Dawanna Kennedy

Dawanna Kennedy is a passionate advocate for community building, originally hailing from New Jersey. Throughout her career, she has dedicated herself to uplifting at-risk youth and adults in underserved communities. Her journey began as Editor-in-Chief of her high school newspaper, The Student Voice, and captain of “The Lady Generals” basketball team, where she first discovered her drive to make a difference.

With a robust background in the non-profit sector during her undergraduate and graduate studies, Dawanna has crafted a diverse career portfolio. She has successfully spearheaded initiatives in temporary housing, clinical resources, and holistic programs that have transformed the lives of vulnerable youth and adults.

As an ordained minister, Dawanna merges her passion for community service with her faith, leading mentorship programs that empower LGBTQ+ individuals and other marginalized groups to achieve their full potential. Known affectionately as "Dee Kay," she believes in embracing life's challenges as opportunities for personal growth and resilience.

Dawanna Kennedy continues to inspire and empower others, believing that by coming together, we can create meaningful change and build stronger, more supportive communities.
